Equestrian trainer and filmmaker Emma Massingale is making waves in the horse world with her latest adventure—taking her beloved herd of six horses for an unforgettable romp along the stunning North Cornwall coastline. Her new video, The Mini Tribe Go Wild At The Seaside, captures the pure joy and freedom of horses doing what they love most: exploring, playing, and bonding with their herd.
Meet the Dream Team
The video stars returning YouTube favorites Albert and Ernie, joined by younger miniatures Stan, Percy, and exciting new addition Peggy. But the real MVP? Connemara Comet, Emma’s trusted companion who Emma free rides while keeping the spirited mini team in check.
“I’ve done a lot of videos with Albert and Ernie but not so many with the miniatures, so I thought it was time we had an adventure,” Emma explained. “Comet came back with me from Connemara and he’s been allocated in charge of the mini team—his job is to babysit them as he has a fantastic temperament.”
With eight Connemaras in her arsenal, Emma has found the perfect solution for managing mixed-ability teams: “He’s also not as tall as my other Connemaras, so he’s easier to get on and off all the time!”

Building Trust with New Horses
Peggy, Emma’s newest miniature recruit, represents an exciting challenge. At six years old and with no previous experience, she’s a blank canvas ready to discover the world. “I recently added Peggy who is six and hasn’t done anything—it’s just about early relationship building with her, so this was a bit of an eye-opener,” Emma shared.
Emma’s philosophy for integrating inexperienced horses is both clever and compassionate: “When I am working with new ones like that, I outnumber them with trained ponies, and as long as there are more trained than untrained ones, it’s a good way of getting everyone to have a good time! They tend to copy Albert and Ernie.”

Liberty Work: Unleashing Personality
What makes Emma’s approach unique is her commitment to liberty work—allowing horses to move freely rather than under tight control. “The Connemara team usually work at liberty in formation, whereas I am currently playing around with the mini guys as I want them to be a free herd,” she explained. “It’s interesting as that way you can see their personalities a bit more.”
This approach reveals the true nature of each horse, creating more authentic and engaging content while strengthening the bonds between herd members.
What’s Next for Emma’s Herd?
Beyond her seaside adventures and upcoming Connemara island holiday in September, Emma is pushing creative boundaries with experimental mixed-species liberty work. Imagine this: Connemaras, donkeys, sheep, pigs, and even the family cat working together in harmony.
“I’m looking at doing a mixed tribe with the Connies, donkeys and other random pets including the sheep and pig—and the cat,” Emma revealed with enthusiasm. “It’s really interesting to do liberty work with different animals as they go at different paces and have different needs—so it’s fascinating to be able to keep the whole horde happy at the same time.”

The Takeaway
Emma Massingale’s seaside adventure reminds us why we fell in love with horses in the first place—their spirit, their playfulness, and their incredible ability to form lasting bonds with each other and the people who care for them. Whether it’s two miniatures or a whole menagerie of animals, liberty work celebrates what horses do best: being authentically, joyfully themselves.
