There are moments that remind us why we fall in love with horses in the first place. This is one of those stories.
An inspiring 87-year-old woman with Parkinson’s disease recently experienced a dream come true, thanks to a special initiative dedicated to granting wishes. After spending decades apart from the horses she cherished, Nelly Jacobs was given an unforgettable final ride—one that transported her back to her beloved younger days as an equestrian.
Understanding Parkinson’s Disease
For those unfamiliar with Parkinson’s disease, it’s a progressive nervous system disorder that profoundly affects movement. Symptoms develop gradually, often beginning with a subtle tremor in one hand. While tremors are characteristic, the condition commonly leads to stiffness and slowing of movement, significantly limiting mobility and daily activities.
A Wish Come True
The ‘Hidden Desires’ project, dedicated to fulfilling the deepest wishes of those with serious health challenges, made Nelly’s dream a reality. The heartwarming event took place at a stable in the Netherlands, where Nelly was gently placed on a specially designed bed that was carried by two magnificent horses.
As the horses carried her through the stable grounds, Nelly was transported back in time—reminiscing about her incredible journey as a rider that began when she was just nine years old. For nearly eight decades, her love for horses had never wavered, and this final ride was a beautiful celebration of that lifelong passion.
