There’s nothing quite like spending your weekend surrounded by horses and the great outdoors. For many of us, weekdays are packed with work and responsibilities, leaving precious little time to bond with our four-legged friends. But as any experienced rider knows, even the best-laid plans for a peaceful ride can take an unexpected turn!
That’s exactly what happened when Diamond, a cheeky pony with a mind of his own, decided to turn an ordinary river crossing into an unforgettable moment of equestrian chaos. What started as a routine splash through the water quickly became a comedy of errors when something beneath the surface startled the spirited pony, causing him to bolt and unceremoniously unseat his 19-year-old rider, Georgia Clark, into the two-foot-deep waters of a Hertfordshire river near Hoddesdon.
When Things Don’t Go According to Plan
The entire hilarious incident was captured on video by Candice Metcalf, whose 15-year-old daughter Tegan was riding alongside on her horse, Shadow. The footage shows Diamond’s dramatic reaction to whatever lurked below the water’s surface—and Georgia’s spectacular dismount that followed. But here’s the best part: after dunking his rider, the mischievous pony simply climbed out of the water and trotted over to a nearby grass verge for a snack, seemingly unbothered by the chaos he’d created!

A Day to Remember (and Laugh About)
Candice reflected on the moment with good humor, sharing her perspective on the spooky encounter: “Diamond has been in the water plenty of times and was actually leading Shadow in for the first time. It looked a little scary at the beginning, but fortunately neither the pony nor rider was injured.” This is the kind of positive outcome every horse lover hopes for when something goes sideways!

The Funny Side of Horsemanship
What could have been a serious situation turned into a story they’ll all be laughing about for years to come. Georgia walked away unharmed, Diamond got his snack, and Tegan and Shadow witnessed the whole theatrical performance. This is exactly why we love spending time with horses—they keep us humble, they keep us laughing, and they remind us why we signed up for this wild ride in the first place!
