An Extraordinary Rescue Mission
Our horses are more than just animals—they’re family. The bond between horse and owner is one of life’s most precious gifts, built on years of trust, companionship, and unconditional support. When our equine companions are in danger, we’ll move mountains to save them. That’s exactly what happened in Sunland, California, when a dramatic helicopter rescue brought one senior mare back from the brink.

Sunny’s Dangerous Fall
Sunny, a 30-year-old horse, tumbled down a treacherous 15-meter (roughly 50-foot) hillside during the night. When morning broke, her desperate owner discovered the elderly mare lying exhausted at the bottom of the ravine—too weak and injured to climb back up on her own. Without immediate help, Sunny’s situation was dire.

A Six-Hour Heroic Operation
Sunny’s devoted owner didn’t hesitate. She immediately contacted the Los Angeles Fire Department, and what followed was an incredible six-hour rescue operation under the California sun. The LAFD teamed up with LA Animal Services SMART (Special Mammals Rescue Team) to devise a plan to save the aging horse.
Firefighters coordinated a sophisticated lift operation using a helicopter to carefully hoist Sunny back up the steep hillside. The precision, expertise, and sheer determination of these first responders was nothing short of remarkable. Every moment mattered as they worked against the clock to bring Sunny to safety.

A Reunion Made Possible
Thanks to the incredible bravery and skill of the Los Angeles Fire Department and LA Animal Services SMART team, Sunny made it back to solid ground and, most importantly, back to her owner. The rescue demonstrates the lengths emergency responders will go to protect our beloved animals. This is what true compassion looks like.

Why Our Horses Deserve Our Best
Stories like Sunny’s remind us why our obligation to our horses is so fundamental. These magnificent creatures give us so much—companionship, joy, purpose, and unwavering loyalty. They’re there for us on our best days and our worst days, asking nothing but care and compassion in return.
Whether your horse is a young competition partner or a senior retiree like Sunny, they deserve our complete commitment to their safety and wellbeing. Sunny’s owner understood this deeply, and her dedication ultimately saved her horse’s life. That’s the kind of love and responsibility that defines true horsemanship.
