Horse Rescue: Firefighters Save Arabian from Pool Emergency

Sometimes heroes wear more than just riding gear. This heartwarming rescue story from Mesa, Arizona, reminds us that compassion for horses comes in many forms—even from our local firefighters!

    A Splash of Trouble

Twelve-year-old Stormy, a beautiful Arabian horse, had enjoyed years of peaceful living on owner Mark Branham’s spacious property. With plenty of room to roam and graze, the gentle gelding had never ventured into trouble. But one fateful day, curiosity got the better of him, and Stormy found himself in a place no horse should be: stuck at the bottom of the family’s swimming pool.

Mark Branham heard strange splashing sounds coming from the pool area and rushed outside to investigate. What he discovered broke his heart—his beloved Stormy was struggling desperately to stay afloat, his hooves scrambling against the pool walls in a panicked attempt to escape. Every effort the Arabian made only seemed to exhaust him further.

    Swift Action and Teamwork

Realizing he couldn’t rescue his horse alone, Mark didn’t hesitate to call 911. While waiting for emergency responders to arrive, he and several neighbors worked tirelessly to keep Stormy’s head above water. Their quick thinking and dedication literally kept the frightened horse alive during those critical minutes.
