Every dog deserves a forever home, and Major’s incredible journey proves that patience and persistence always pay off. After spending 372 days at the Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS), this loving black-and-white pup finally found the family he’d been waiting for—and his story will absolutely warm your heart!
A Second Chance at Life
Major and his brother Hilo arrived at the NAHS shelter as 3-year-olds from a facility in Quincy, Illinois. The staff recognized they had arrived just in time—without the rescue, both dogs faced an uncertain future. But Major’s gentle spirit and loving nature made him a staff favorite from day one.
“This is the most intelligent dog we have!” shared Winston, a dedicated NAHS volunteer. “He’s incredibly affectionate, and everyone at the shelter has been cheering for him to find his family,” added Jane. Fellow volunteer Pam echoed the sentiment: “Major is just the sweetest boy.”

Why Was This Perfect Boy Still Waiting?
The shelter staff remained baffled by Major’s long wait. With his friendly demeanor, excellent behavior, and gentle nature, there seemed to be no reason why adopters weren’t lining up for him. Major showed genuine love and camaraderie toward his shelter mates, proving he was a true companion regardless of circumstances.
To help find his perfect match, the NAHS team created a special video highlighting all of Major’s wonderful qualities, featuring testimonials from staff and volunteers who knew him best.

The Day Everything Changed
On a special Wednesday, 372 days after arriving at NAHS, Jose walked through the shelter doors. Jose was grieving the loss of his beloved pet and searching for a new companion to share his life with. When the staff introduced him to Major, something magical happened—an instant connection that felt absolutely right.
The chemistry between Jose and Major was undeniable from their first meeting. This was it. This was the match everyone at the shelter had been hoping for!

A Heartfelt Send-Off
Before Major headed off to start his new life, the shelter staff arranged a beautiful goodbye. Major had the chance to say farewell to each volunteer he’d bonded with over the past year—a touching moment that honored the connection they’d all built together.
As Major climbed into Jose’s truck, his excitement was palpable. Through the window, he nestled against Jose with a smile that melted everyone’s hearts. The joy radiating from this sweet pup was unmistakable—Major finally knew he was going home.
The Happy Ending We All Needed
Major is now thriving in his forever home with Jose, embarking on new adventures and living the happy life he’d always deserved. The NAHS team has received wonderful updates confirming that Major is settling in beautifully and bringing Jose immeasurable joy.
Major’s story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes the best things in life are worth waiting for. To the wonderful volunteers and staff at Naperville Area Humane Society—thank you for never giving up on this incredible boy. And to Jose, welcome to the amazing world of dog parenthood. Major couldn’t have found a better home!
