Sometimes the most heartwarming horse stories begin in the darkest places. For a tiny foal named Skye, his journey started at a Pennsylvania horse auction—before he was even born. His mother, Ruby, arrived at Thornbury Farm Stables so severely malnourished that no one suspected she was carrying a precious new life inside her.
A Mother’s Trauma: When Instinct Isn’t Enough
When Penny Parker, the dedicated barn manager at Thornbury Farm in West Chester, Pennsylvania, noticed Ruby’s swelling belly, she initially thought it was a parasite issue. The introduction was pure magic. “They were in love,” Parker told the Dodo, her voice full of wonder. “She’s lying next to him, standing over him while he sleeps. They’re running around together, connected at the hip.”
