Horse Coat Clipping Art: Meet the Artist Transforming Equines

When passion meets purpose, magic happens—and in the world of equestrian artistry, Melody Hames is creating something truly extraordinary. This innovative “horse barber” has transformed a childhood hobby into a globally recognized art form, turning horse coats into stunning masterpieces that captivate audiences worldwide.

From Childhood Passion to Global Sensation

Melody Hames, 32, discovered her unique calling nearly five years ago when she began creating intricate designs on her horses’ coats. What started as a creative outlet has blossomed into an international business, with Melody now traveling the world to clip art into horses for enthusiasts and professionals alike. Her impressive resume even includes work on HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones—talk about making your mark in the equestrian world!

“I started clipping when I was around nine years old, and it has now become my passion and profession,” Melody explains. “I travel globally creating custom clips and teaching others the science and horsemanship behind this unique craft. I clip year-round, not just during winter coat season, so on average, I can complete around five horses per day.”

    The Artistry Behind Every Clip

The dedication required for this craft is impressive. Each piece of equine art can take up to 10 hours to complete, depending on the complexity and detail of the design. But Melody never rushes the process—the horse’s wellbeing always comes first.

“The creative clip time varies based on how much progress we make during a session,” Melody shares. “Since the horse’s comfort and mental state are my priorities, if they become bored or restless, I stop and resume the next day. It’s all about creating a positive experience for the horse while producing amazing art.”
