For true horse lovers, there’s nothing quite like the special bond we share with our equine companions. These magnificent creatures are so much more than animals—they’re family, confidants, and partners in every sense of the word. So when photographer Elizabeth Lacroix of Genesis Ell Photography learned that her beloved horse, Paisley, was expecting a foal, she knew she had to capture this magical moment in a truly unique way.
What started as a spontaneous, heartwarming idea turned into one of the most adorable equine photoshoots we’ve ever seen. Elizabeth explained to LittleThings how the whole thing came together: “The shoot was completely spur of the moment. My daughter was home on a snow day, and we hatched the idea together. I rummaged through my human photography props and found some that would actually fit our very pregnant pony! With my daughter Cadence helping as my assistant, we headed out to the backyard, cleaned Paisley up as much as we could, and created some truly special memories.”

Celebrating the Miracle of New Life
The magic didn’t stop with the maternity photos. Once little Leeloo made her grand entrance into the world, Elizabeth’s camera was ready to capture those precious first moments. The newborn foal photos are absolutely breathtaking and showcase the incredible bond between mother and baby.

Why Horse Maternity Photoshoots Matter
This creative photoshoot is more than just a cute idea—it’s a beautiful way to honor the incredible journey of pregnancy and motherhood in horses. Pregnancy in mares is a remarkable nine-to-eleven-month process filled with anticipation, and documenting it creates lasting memories that you’ll treasure forever.
Whether you’re a professional photographer or just someone with a smartphone and a passion for horses, a maternity photoshoot is a meaningful way to celebrate your mare’s journey. It’s an opportunity to spend quality time with your horse, involve your family in the excitement, and create heirloom photos that capture this special chapter of your equine companion’s life.
Inspiration for Horse Lovers Everywhere
Elizabeth’s creative approach—using props, involving her daughter, and making it a family affair—shows that you don’t need a professional studio to create stunning horse photography. All you need is love for your horse, a little imagination, and a willingness to go the extra mile for your four-legged friend.
The story of Paisley and baby Leeloo is a wonderful reminder of why we’re all horse people in the first place. These animals touch our hearts and inspire us to celebrate every moment we share with them.
