Horse and Cart at McDonald’s Drive-Thru? This Rider’s 4AM Run Goes Viral

We’ve all had those late-night cravings that lead us to the nearest drive-thru, but this rider took the phrase “going for a quick bite” to a whole new level of unconventional transportation!

Early one morning, West Yorkshire Police traffic officers on the night shift witnessed something truly unexpected outside a McDonald’s on Bradford Road in Brighouse. Instead of the usual parade of cars and vans, they spotted a horse-drawn gig parked in the drive-thru bay. Yes, you read that right—a horse and cart at McDonald’s!

    The 4AM Equestrian Adventure

According to PC Dave Cant, who shared the amusing incident on social media (@WYP_TrafficDave), the rider wasn’t just grabbing a quick meal—he was standing inside the 24-hour takeaway at 4 am, holding his dog while waiting for his order. Talk about bringing the whole crew along for a midnight snack run!

“Seen it all now,” the officer tweeted. “Just popped in for a brew! The rider was stood holding his dog waiting for his food!”

Perhaps even more impressively, the resourceful equestrian managed to keep his horse and cart neatly contained within a single parking bay. Of course, at 4 in the morning, parking spaces weren’t exactly in high demand at the fast-food establishment!

A Pattern of Unusual Drive-Thru Visits

This quirky incident isn’t the first time riders have attempted to blend equestrian transportation with modern fast-food convenience. The horse and cart McDonald’s trend seems to be gaining some traction in the UK:

    • May incident: Two men tried to “drive” a horse into a McDonald’s location in Staines, Surrey
    • 2016 protest: Connor John Hamer staged a memorable protest at a McDonald’s in Bury, Lancashire, after staff refused to serve him when he and his horse trotted into the drive-thru

    What McDonald’s Has to Say

While these incidents make for entertaining stories, McDonald’s has made their position crystal clear on equestrian customers. The fast-food giant previously stated:

“Our drive-thru lanes are specifically designed for roadworthy motor vehicles only. The close proximity of motor vehicles in a frequently busy area, with limited space, means that our drive-thru lanes are not suitable for pedestrians, bike riders, horses or horse-drawn carts.”

A Humorous Reminder for Horse Lovers

While we absolutely love the creativity and charm of horse-drawn transportation, this incident serves as a fun reminder that modern drive-thru systems are engineered specifically for automobiles. Safety regulations exist for good reason—protecting both our equine friends and the people around them.

That said, these stories certainly bring a smile to any horse lover’s face! Whether you’re into dressage, jumping, or just appreciate a well-maintained gig, we can all appreciate the humor in imagining a horse queuing up for a Big Mac alongside the sedans and SUVs.

So, the next time you’re out with your horse, maybe save the McDonald’s run for when you’re back on four wheels. Your trusty steed will thank you—and so will traffic police everywhere!
