From Neglect to New Beginnings
These two special ponies were rescued by World Horse Welfare in 2016, and their stories are nothing short of inspiring. Little Huckleberry was found tethered alone on a rubbish dump—just a few months old and in desperate need of care. Dash’s rescue was equally devastating; he arrived at the charity severely malnourished, described as “skin and bones” after a field officer discovered his plight.
Both ponies received dedicated rehabilitation and love at the charity, transforming them into the confident, joyful animals they are today.
A Second Chance at Family
In August 2016, Samantha Perry of Hertfordshire gave these two pony friends their forever home—together. Samantha saw them on the World Horse Welfare website and was immediately drawn to the special bond they shared.
“When I saw them both on the website, they were so adorable,” Samantha explained. “Reading about the bond they have inspired me. I also have a little boy who, when they were backed, would be able to grow up with them and enjoy riding them.”
Blossoming Personalities
Since arriving at their new home, both ponies have truly thrived. Their personalities have flourished in ways that have delighted the entire Perry family.
Dash, once fearful and malnourished, has become an affectionate companion who “loves a cuddle” and has made remarkable progress under saddle. Samantha’s daughter Olivia has already begun riding this gentle pony, watching his confidence grow day by day.
Huckleberry? He’s become the comedic heart of the family—cheeky, funny, and more like a pet dog than a pony! The brothers continue to play together in their field, enjoy grooming sessions, and have even become local celebrities during their walks around the neighborhood.
