From Neglect to Inspiration: Hank’s Incredible Journey
Sometimes the most powerful messages come from the most unexpected places—like a 9-year-old gelding standing outside a shopping mall with a bell around his neck. Meet Hank, a remarkable rescue horse whose story is changing hearts and inspiring generosity during the holiday season.

A Second Chance at Life
When Tammi Regan first spotted Hank in October 2012, the young gelding was standing alone in a field—neglected, starving, and forgotten. Despite having no prior horse ownership experience, Regan’s heart told her everything she needed to know. She made the decision that changed both their lives forever: she would rescue him and give him the love and care he so desperately deserved.
“Hank is proof that all horses are worthy of love, care, and a second chance,” Regan reflects. “From the moment I met him, I knew my life had changed. I went on an immersion journey to learn about horses and caring for them.”

Ringing in the Spirit of Giving
Today, Hank has found his true calling: spreading joy and inspiring compassion. This beautiful gelding has been trained to ring the bell for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign—one of the most iconic symbols of holiday giving. Every time that bell rings, it represents hope for families in need: warm meals, safe shelter, Christmas gifts for children, and vital social services.

Teaching Children About Compassion
What makes Hank’s work truly special is the impact he has on young people. Children and families stop to interact with this gentle horse, and in that moment, they learn a valuable lesson about giving and kindness. Parents watch their kids drop coins into the kettle and thank Hank, planting seeds of compassion that will grow throughout their lives. In a world that often feels disconnected, Hank reminds us that we’re all capable of making a difference.

From Rescue to Rescue Program
Hank’s growing popularity didn’t go unnoticed. Inspired by the transformation of her once-neglected gelding, Regan took her passion further and founded Equinox Stables, a comprehensive program dedicated to helping other horses and their owners thrive. Through natural horsemanship training, equine nutrition counseling, and equine business consulting, Regan is extending Hank’s message of hope to horses and people across the community.

The Message We All Need to Hear
As the holidays approach, Hank’s story reminds us of something essential: everyone deserves a second chance. Whether it’s a forgotten horse in a field or a person struggling to find their way, compassion and love have the power to transform lives. When you see a Salvation Army bell ringer this season, remember Hank—and know that every donation rings like a bell of hope for someone who needs it most.
